UK and Ireland - The Offshore Islands - travel information overview

          The Cuillins, Skye
               The Cuillins, Isle of Skye
UK and Ireland are island nations. Off-shore there are many
islands to visit and explore. This is a listing of  some of these
with links to websites that give more information. I have only
visited a few of them. Jersey was where I worked one
summer as a student and I returned there for my honeymoon,
I liked it so much. Skye is all that it is reputed to be. My
cousin's son lives there. He and his wife Morag (a doctor specialising
in sports medicine who has climbed all of the 'Munros') run a
sea-kayaking operation called Skyak Adventures. Gordon is one of
the world's top 10 kayakers and the author of  "Sea Kayak: A
Manual for Intermediate and Advanced Sea Kayakers"
Arran and Bute I have visited and mention on the Scotland
page. I saw quite a bit of Angelsey on my last FAM trip to Wales.
It is very pretty inland and the coast has a combination of good
beaches and some very rugged cliffs, etc. On the mainland side
there is the Menai Strait with Beaumaris Castle and the graceful
Menai Bridge. Sorry, but the rest you will have to research for
yourselves.

It would take me a week to write a bit on all of these places, and I
still wouldn’t do them justice. The Isle of Man, The Channel Islands
and The Scilly Isles are all part of Britain, but are ‘semi-detached’
from England. I included them as they are all readily accessed from
England. The Isle of Man is accessed equally from all the other
countries of UK and Ireland. There are, of course, many other
smaller islands. Please use the links to check them out. A very
good website for the Scottish islands is Undiscovered Scotland.
It’s also very good for Scotland in general…one of the best, in
fact. Happy hunting!
