Britcanada.com endorses Wetherspoon's Pubs and Hotels
A Word
About Wetherspoons
Wetherspoons
has over 700 pubs around UK.
Some have accommodation. (Wetherspoon Lodges)
Most are in preserved buildings with many of
them being quite old. I stayed at The Royal Hop
Pole in Tewkesbury, parts of which date back to
the 15th. Century. It was awesome! (See photos)
They are known for their good value. A pint
will cost you under 2GBP and you can get
good pub meals at great prices, too. With
these prices, some can get pretty busy in the
evenings. They do get quite lively and tend
to attract a younger crowd because of the
prices. (Wetherspoons have come under
litigation as it is considered they might
encourage excessive alcohol consumption
by younger drinkers.) All this aside, they
are well run and show a responsible
attitude in this direction. I have never felt
uncomfortable in a Wetherspoons. They
don't have VLT's, live music, etc. They
have the feel of being sociable English pubs.
Some of their premises operate under the
name "Lloyd's No.1 Bar". These are more like
discos or clubs. Again, though noisy, they
are well and responsibly run with good
prices and food.
